Deddington History Readme

Deddington – at one time Daedintun – means ‘the place of the people of Daeda’ – an early Saxon Lord. The story of our parish’s inhabitants since that time has been steadily compiled on this website for the last [25] years thanks to a number of contributors (generally identified in their articles) led by Rob Forsyth as editor. Following his retirement, it became a read only site on…………

Acknowledgements

Deddington OnLine website was created in 1999 as a Millennial project on the initiative of Colin Robinson and Charles Newey hosted by Granary Publications (Martin Reed and Elizabeth Burak). In 2019 the COMMUNITY section became its own seperately hosted and edited website but still called Deddington OnLine. The History section then became part of the Parish Archive as its own website thanks to Martin Reed who has continued to host it and provide ongoing technical support. Furthermore, as a pro bono ‘hobby’, Martin has devised the software program that has saved the site, and its key ancillary documents, as PDFs to ensure that all this research will remain available to researchers for the future.

Usage

A PDF file makes a good archive format but cannot capture all the functionality of a website. This PDF contains a virtual print of each web page at the time of archiving, along with any images that each web page links to (such as full size versions of thumbnails). Links are preserved where possible.

Additional assets such as associated PDF files, Excel files, etc are provided in the adjacent “assets” folder. Each reference to an external asset includes the asset number and the external files are named to match.
